My story
My name is Eddie Crummer and Raro Music Maker is my record label. I was born in New Zealand. My parents are from Rarotonga in the Cook Islands, and some of my earliest musical memories are of church: the men singing baritone, the women on the high harmonies, all in Cook Island Māori. I couldn't understand a word, but it sounded incredible, and it taught me what harmony can do.
I learned to play guitar by ear from records and the radio, played gigs around Auckland with some mates for a year, then moved to Australia. I spent about fifteen years in indie bands around Sydney. It never became a livelihood and I only played part time. I stopped when my wife and I married in 2002. We're still happily married, with two kids now in their early twenties.
About ten years ago I discovered the digital audio workstation and from there, my passion for music was back. I started jamming bass and guitar over drum loops, added vocals, and the jams began to sound like songs. My influences are a happy mess: Stevie Wonder, The Police, The Smiths, The Clash, Glen Campbell, Split Enz, Dave Dobbyn, Dua Lipa and plenty more.
I'm not chasing pop stardom. I'd just love for these songs to reach a big audience, and if people connect with them, that's a great result.
